Asia Pacific Telecom earlier announced that it would be the first to launch the service in Taiwan.eSIM service for iPhoneApplications are expected to open at all Taiwan stores starting November 11th. I recently obtained a test number from Asia Pacific Telecom to illustrate the actual application and activation process.
According to Asia Pacific Telecom, eSIM applications still need to go through the store application process. Currently, there is no way to apply for short-term rentals directly through online websites or apps.Note), the main reason is that China Telecom requires real-name authentication for phone numbers, and the current eSIM solution does not yet provide a pure Internet tariff option. Therefore, users who want to apply for eSIM services can basically only apply directly at the store.
At the same time, the only mobile phones that support eSIM services in Taiwan are Apple's iPhone XR and iPhone XS series. Although Google's Pixel 3, which was recently launched in Taiwan, also supports eSIM functions, it is not currently possible to activate eSIM services in Taiwan.
Note:The iPad Pro 10.5 with built-in eSIM function can directly connect to the Internet service application page provided by Apple's global partners, allowing users to complete the Internet service application directly through the page.
After completing the application, the store staff will provide a set of cards containing a QR code and barcode, or you can activate it online through the app in the future. Then, just use the iPhone XR or iPhone XS series upgraded to iOS 12.1, select the "Mobile Service" item in the Settings app, click "Join Mobile Plan", and then use your phone to take a picture of the single-use QR Code provided by Asia Pacific Telecom. Then, step by step, complete the process of noting the phone number and choosing whether to set it as a default number to complete the setup.
In subsequent settings, users can set which phone number to use for Internet access and calls in the "Mobile Services" item at any time, and can even decide to turn on or off one of the phone number services to avoid activating two phone numbers at the same time and increasing extra power consumption, or use only one phone number to access the Internet when traveling abroad, and temporarily turn off the phone number originally used mainly in Taiwan.
