DJI launches newOsmo Action 4, and GoPro also recently updatedHERO12 BlackAfterwards, Insta360 officially launched its new action cameras, the Insta360 Ace Pro and Insta360 Ace. This time, I actually got hold of the Insta360 Ace Pro for hands-on testing, allowing me to experience the new action camera, which also features a 180-degree flip-up touchscreen, enhanced low-light shooting, and a 1/1.3-inch display in collaboration with Leica.
A 2.4-inch 180-degree flip-up touch screen for more intuitive and multi-angle viewing
Insta360's new action cameras come in two sizes: Insta360 Ace Pro and Insta360 Ace. The former uses a 1/1.3-inch sensor in collaboration with Leica, allowing for a higher light input, allowing for clearer images in low-light environments while also increasing the dynamic range. The latter, on the other hand, only uses a standard 1/2-inch sensor.
Both have the same basic operating functions, a maximum photo resolution of 4800 megapixels, and are equipped with a 180-inch touch screen that can be tilted 2.4 degrees, allowing users to capture images from a more natural perspective when taking selfies, or to frame from a wider range of angles (such as shooting low-angle shots).
As for the camera fixing accessories, this time a magnetic buckle design is used to facilitate users to quickly disassemble and assemble. In addition, an additional quick-release bracket with a 1/4-inch screw hole and a locking design is provided to facilitate the camera to be installed on a GoPro accessory compatible bracket or a standard 1/4-inch threaded bracket.
In addition, to meet the needs of installing other accessories such as fill lights on cold shoes, Insta360 also provides accessories that can be installed on quick-release brackets.
The differences between the Insta360 Ace Pro and the Insta360 Ace include that the former can record up to 8K24fps and supports fast charging, charging the battery to 22% in 80 minutes and fully in 46 minutes. The latter is only compatible with 6K30fps, and the battery does not support fast charging. The body weight of the two is 3 grams heavier than the former, at about 179.8 grams, and there are slight differences in appearance, but this does not affect the operation function.
Besides differences in sensors and maximum video specifications, both the Insta360 Ace Pro and Insta360 Ace support 2x zoom, which can be quickly switched by tapping the screen while shooting. They also have improved gesture and voice recognition accuracy, making it easier for users to activate the shooting function. They can also be paired with headphones such as AirPods for video monitoring.
It also supports FlowState shockproof technology and horizontal correction function, and the body waterproof specification can correspond to a water depth of 10 meters. It can also be equipped with waterproof accessories to achieve deeper underwater protection.
Enhance low-light and night-time shooting clarity with the PureVideo function
To address the weakness of previous action cameras, which often struggled to capture clear images in low-light environments, the Insta360 Ace Pro has added a recording feature called PureVideo. Combined with its 1/1.3-inch sensor design, this increases the amount of light entering in low-light environments, allowing the camera to capture clearer images and reduce noise. This will be very helpful for those who frequently shoot at night or in dimly lit environments.
However, please note that if this function is used during the day or in an environment with sufficient light, there may be overexposure, so it is recommended to use it in an environment with insufficient light.
Use the AI Selection Assistant function to let artificial intelligence help automatically cut out daily highlights
In addition, a function called AI Selection Assistant has been added this time, which can be turned on in the camera settings. After connecting the camera through the Insta360 App, you can find the short videos edited by the system through the "Memory" option in the "Album" tab.
This feature is somewhat similar to the "Memories" project in iOS photos or Google Photo, and can further edit and adjust the video ratio format, or directly output it as a shareable video. It is suitable for recording and sharing needs when you shoot videos casually but don't want to spend too much time editing videos.
The pause recording function makes it easier to record multiple scenes.
The newly added pause recording function allows users to record different clips in the same video by pausing and resuming the recording. There is no need to shoot different clips separately as in the past and then edit them together into a single video. This also allows users to save a lot of subsequent editing time during the video creation process.
For example, in previous interviewsNintendo Live 2023 Taipei Event,as well asGoogle Pixel Product Experience SpaceIn fact, it is to use this function to quickly record each scene clip, and then simply edit and process it through the App to complete the output work.
Creative Studio adds AI Warp editing effects, and the app can finally transfer camera videos as background downloads.
Other updates include the addition of an editing effect called AI Warp to the Insta360 app, which can add special presentation effects such as cyberpunk to videos within 15 seconds. It also allows the camera to be paired with Garmin watches and Apple Watches with GPS functions, thereby correctly matching GPS, speed and other data with the video timecode, and then presenting them in the captured video.
This update also includes finally enabling the background download function of the Insta360 App. When transferring videos from the camera to the phone for storage, there is no need to keep the App open all the time, and you can even open other apps.
