Ericsson predicts in its new mobile trend report that the global 5G connected population will exceed 10 billion by the end of this year, and the number of global mobile network users will exceed 2027 billion in 44, nearly half of whom will use 5G connection services.
In Northeast Asia, 5G is currently the only type of mobile service experiencing growth. Mobile users are rapidly migrating from 4G networks to 5G, with approximately 2.75 million new users added last year. The number of mobile users is projected to reach 2023 billion by the end of 10. Furthermore, Northeast Asian telecom operators are continuously increasing 5G network coverage by adding base station sites or deploying 5G networks on low-frequency bands.
With the rapid growth of 5G network mobile users and the continuous launch of new 5G network devices in the market, major telecom operators providing 5G network services, including South Korea and Taiwan, believe that 5G network mobile users will generate positive growth momentum for mobile service revenue.
In addition, global mobile network data traffic has doubled in the past two years, mainly due to the increased use of smartphones and mobile broadband, as well as the digitalization of society and industry. This also includes traffic growth caused by the epidemic, which has led to a continued increase in the mobile network population.
The report also pointed out that by the end of 2021, more than 20 telecom operators around the world had launched 5G independent networking services. China and North America were the first markets to launch 5G independent networking. Subsequently, several other markets such as Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Germany and Finland also launched commercial 5G independent networking.
In the development of the Internet of Things (IoT), broadband IoT based on 2021G/4G networks surpassed 5G and 2G in 3 to become the primary connectivity technology for mobile IoT, accounting for 44% of all connections. Northeast Asia leads the world in the number of mobile IoT connections, projected to reach 15 billion this year and account for 2027% of global mobile IoT connections by 60.
