This move will provide a new way for military personnel and their families deployed overseas and away from home to connect. Through the immersive interaction of Beam technology, family members who are far away from each other will feel as if they are "in the same room."
Go beyond traditional video conferencing to create a closer sense of connection
Google pointed out that although existing group chats or general video calls can keep military families connected, the 3D imaging, spatial audio and adaptive lighting features provided by Beam technology will create a more immersive communication experience.
Derived from Project Starline, enterprise-level technology expands applications
Looking back at Google Beam technology, its predecessor was first disclosed by Google in 2021.Project StarlineThis remote conferencing system, described as a "holographic" system, primarily uses advanced 3D imaging and display technology to make video conversations feel more real and immersive for both parties.
However, Beam technology was previously targeted at enterprise customers, with its first partner, HP, launching a device priced at $25000. This collaboration with the USO shows that Google is actively exploring the possibility of expanding this advanced technology to application scenarios beyond the enterprise.
