Coming up next weekMade by Google launch eventRecently, Google took the lead in unveiling the previously exposed new Chromecast product and confirmed that it would be called Google TV Streamer. At the same time, Google also announced the launch of the fourth-generation indoor smart learning thermostat Nest Learning Thermostat.
Google TV Streamer
Compared to the previously launched Chromecast that supports Google TV function (i.e.Chromecast with Google TV), Google TV Streamer uses a faster processor, coupled with 2GB of memory that is twice as large as before, and 4GB of storage capacity that is four times larger. It can also support 4K 32fps streaming playback specifications, and also supports HDR, Dolby Vision images and Dolby Atmos panoramic sound output. It can also present a spatial sound field when paired with Google Pixel Buds true wireless headphones.
As for connectivity, it still uses HDMI 2.1 Type-A, with additional power supplied via the USB-C port. It also includes wired network connectivity for more stable network transmission. While the remote control is similar to the previous Chromecast version that supports Google TV, there are significant differences in the volume control and other button placements.
In terms of appearance, Google TV Streamer adoptsDesign similar to a wireless charging padIt can be placed directly on the desktop for use, or fixed to the back of the TV through double-sided tape. In addition to supporting linkage with Google Home compatible smart home devices, it can also be used with Matter universal IoT protocol compatible devices to establish a home IoT ecosystem.
The Google TV Streamer design naturally integrates Google's Gemini artificial intelligence service to create a personalized viewing experience. It can also play Google Photos stored on the TV screen through ambient TV mode, or display screensaver content. It can also call the Google Assistant digital assistant service to correspond to TV-related operating functions.
Currently, Google TV Streamer will be sold at a price of US$99.99 and will be available in two colors: dark gray and white gray. Given that the previous Chromecast that supports Google TV function has been sold in the Taiwanese market, it is expected that Google TV Streamer will also be introduced to the Taiwanese market.
Nest Learning Thermostat, the fourth-generation indoor smart learning thermostat
The fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat, an indoor smart learning thermostat unveiled simultaneously, has been redesigned with a different shape and more adjusted details. The display area has been increased by 60%, and it has been changed to a curved display design, further making the border "disappear."
Google has also added a custom display function to the screen, allowing users to change the display to a custom screen. The display font will also scale with the user's viewing distance, mainly through the built-in Soli radar to determine the degree of proximity.
The operation process will capture accurate data through artificial intelligence and cooperate with temperature control to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature, avoiding unnecessary electricity waste and thus saving monthly electricity bills.
According to Google, the fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat can maintain power for about three years. Its packaging has completely removed plastic components, and the battery inside is made of recycled cobalt.
The fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat is now available for pre-order in the US, with shipping starting August 8th. It's priced at $20 and comes in silver, gold, and obsidian. The temperature sensor, sold separately, has a suggested retail price of $279.99, while a set of three is priced at $39.99.
Applying Gemini technology to smart homes
Just as Google has integrated Gemini technology with Google TV Streamer, it can connect to more artificial intelligence applications. For example, it can integrate the content captured by the previously launched Nest Camera lens and accelerate image recognition efficiency through Gemini's multimodal operation. At the same time, Gemini's artificial intelligence can also learn user viewing preferences through Gemini's artificial intelligence, thereby providing the best content recommendation results.
