Officially announced at GooglePixel 10 series, and containsPixel Watch 4, Pixel Buds 2a, and announced that the new phone will integrate more Gemini AI application services. Members of the Google Taiwan team also revealed in an interview that the new phone will adopt a design.
Google's first fully self-designed Tensor G3 processor, built on TSMC's 5nm process
Compared to previous collaborations with Samsung, where processors were built using semi-customized design and process technology provided by Samsung, the Tensor G10 processor used in the Pixel 5 series was designed in collaboration between Google and the DeepMind team and manufactured using TSMC's 3nm process technology, emphasizing the optimization of the device-side Gemini Nano AI model in AI computing.
According to Google, the Tensor G5 boasts a 4% improvement in CPU performance compared to the previous-generation Tensor G25, while AI computing performance is increased by 60%. Furthermore, the use of TSMC's 3nm process reduces overall power consumption and heat generation during high-density use.
Google Vice President of Hardware, Peng Yujun, stated that while Gemini AI technology has been implemented in collaboration with numerous Android phone brands, many application features still require the Tensor series processor (such as specific camera zoom, image processing functions, and Magic Cue). This highlights the unique features and market competitive advantages of the Pixel series products.
On the other hand, the Tensor A2 processor equipped in Pixel Buds 1a is actually designed to process Gemini AI application functions in real time, thereby bringing AI service functions that are closer to personal use.
Magic Cue and Gemini for Home will focus on the US market for now.
However, for the feature listed as one of the main features of the Pixel 10 series,Magic CueHowever, its user experience, which is close to agent-based AI, still needs to undergo strict adjustments based on local language, culture, and usage habits. Therefore, at this stage, it is temporarily only available to English-speaking users in the United States. However, it is expected that it will be gradually opened to more countries and regions depending on the adjustment situation.
The instant translation function will also adopt the same model. In particular, the function of simulating the original voice and tone in instant translation will require more preliminary training to achieve. Therefore, it currently only supports specific languages such as English and Spanish, and has not yet been opened to Taiwan, where Traditional Chinese is mainly used.
On the other hand, the next-generation assistant service is expected to be launched in the United States in early access in October this year.Gemini for HomeCurrently, it has not yet been provided for user testing in Taiwan. This is mainly because the relevant operating interface, language, and usage scenarios do not fully meet the needs of the local market. Therefore, it is expected that it will not be open for use until later.
Google stated that its past service launches have typically been targeted at global markets, but factors such as language barriers and cultural differences often lead to varying rollout times for the same service across different regions. However, with the continued advancement of large-scale natural language models and AI technology, Google anticipates that these regional rollout times will become less variable in the future, though deployments will still depend on actual circumstances.
Why did foldable phones come onto the market later and no longer emphasize thinness?
As for the simultaneous release of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which still maintains a launch time gap of approximately one month, Peng Yujun explained that the main reason for this is that more time is needed for preparation. This is due to the different ways large foldable phones are used, and many AI applications require a combination of hardware and software. Therefore, compared to last year's strategy, the foldable phone will be released later to attract different consumer groups.
As for the lack of emphasis on thinness and lightness in this foldable phone, Peng Yujun explained that while making the phone thinner and lighter is still important, there are actually many more important design features. For example, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the first foldable phone to support IP68-rated water and dust resistance. At the same time, more research and development focus is also placed on the new Tensor G5 processor and the related hardware and software design. The hinge design of this new phone has even been strengthened to make it more stable to use.
Therefore, for Google, what is more important is the overall user experience rather than just focusing on enhancing specific designs or functions.
Pixelsnap complies with WPC's Qi2 design
The Pixelsnap magnetic charging interface used in the Pixel 10 series fully complies with the Qi2 design proposed by the WPC Wireless Power Consortium. It also simultaneously launches charging accessories, protective cases, and other accessories. It is also more compatible with Apple's MagSafe magnetic charging interface, greatly improving the interchangeability of accessories.
However, Google stated that some Pixelsnap accessories still require hardware and software integration before they can be used, so this does not mean that all MagSafe accessories can be used normally on the Pixel 10 series models.
Aggressive recruitment of technical talent
CEO Peng Yu revealed that Google is still recruiting technical talents. Many designs of the Pixel 10 series models launched this time are still from the hands of the Taiwanese team. Therefore, as more and more foreign technology companies are expanding their recruitment in Taiwan, Google will also consider how to attract more talents to join.
