Announced this year during Google I/O 2023Integrating auto-generative AI into search engines, in order to create a new search service experience, Google has updated the content earlier.Add more upgrades, which includes making it easier for users to understand and search for information on the Internet, or helping developers write code more easily, and even automatically summarizing long online content.
In this update, Google will add more content generated by automatically generated artificial intelligence on topics such as science, economics, and history. In addition to displaying related organized content through additional columns, it will provide additional explanations for nouns and terms that are more difficult to understand in specific fields. Hovering the mouse cursor over words with attached links will also display further explanations in a floating window.
To meet the needs of programming, Google has also added a coding review function to its search engine, allowing users to more easily confirm whether there are errors in the programming content. It also marks the error parts with obvious colors and even provides appropriate solutions, allowing developers or users who are not familiar with programming to quickly understand the details of the coding operation.
According to Google's previous explanation, the code viewing function added to the search engine supports common programming languages including Java, Go, Python, Javascript, C++, Kotlin, shell, Docker, and Git, and more programming languages are expected to be added in the future.
Additionally, the new version of Google Search now includes an automatic summary feature for long-form web content, allowing users to find what they need more quickly. Initially available on Android and iOS, the feature will be available through the desktop Chrome browser later. Google emphasizes that automatic summarization will help users find answers more quickly through search and accelerate the learning of new knowledge.
Currently, the automatic summary function is only used for content that is publicly available on the Internet and does not include content that requires additional payment to read. Google also emphasizes that content providers have the right to decide whether content can be automatically summarized.
In the next update, Google said it will continue to allow people to test new features through the Labs project to continuously enhance the user experience of Google search services.
