Google has confirmed that it will launchA subscription service called Play PassIt was confirmed earlier that it will be launched first in the United States from now on, and will be charged at US$4.99 per month. During the current promotion period, it will only charge US$1.99 for the first month to attract users, and it can be opened to users, up to 6 family members to use together, and each Google account can get a 10-day free trial.
The Play Pass subscription service is expected to be available in markets outside the United States, and the subscription prices for overseas regions will be announced later.
The Play Pass subscription service will be available for mobile phones, tablets, and laptops, but they must be equipped with the Android 4.4 operating system or use the Google Play Store service version 16.6.25 or above. This means that the Play Pass subscription service will currently only be available for new Android phones and Chromebooks that support the Google Play service.
At present, the initial collection will include 350 games and application service apps, which will not have any advertisements or in-App payment purchase mechanisms, and will be compatible with Apple'sApple ArcadeSimilarly, the full game content can be played through mobile phones, tablets or laptop devices.
Well-known games including "This War of Mine", "Cytus", "Stardew Valley", "Terraria", "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic", "LIMBO", "Lichtspeer", "Mini Metro", "Old Man's Journey" and "Monument Valley 2" will be added to the Play Pass game subscription service to attract more users to play.
In addition to games, another difference from Apple Arcade is that the Play Pass subscription service also includes non-game apps, such as "AccuWeather," "Pic Stitch," "Tunable," and other application service content. It is clear that Google hopes to make games and app content available to more people through a monthly subscription.
However, compared to Apple Arcade, the Play Pass subscription service clearly doesn't focus on exclusive content or collaboration with specific developers. Instead, it simply allows users to freely access the content included in the service through subscription, and balances revenue sharing and other income through scale.
As more and more billing methods begin to move from a single-price model to a low-cost monthly subscription model, allowing users to obtain complete and continuously updated application services with a small monthly payment, more and more manufacturers are clearly beginning to provide services through subscriptions rather than relying solely on a one-time purchase model.
