Google officially launched its website earlier. The new generation mid-range phone Pixel 10aPre-orders are now open. As rumored, this phone can essentially be considered a "complete" version of the Pixel 9a. While the core processor remains the Tensor G4, Google has made noticeable upgrades to the screen brightness, durability, and charging speed—areas that consumers care about most. It also maintains the same starting price of NT$16490 (US$499 in the US market), continuing to emphasize its high-value AI phone positioning.
The screen brightness has been greatly increased; I've upgraded to Gorilla Glass 7i.
The Pixel 10a retains the design language of the Pixel 9a, also featuring a 6.3-inch Acta screen (OLED display panel) supporting refresh rates from 60Hz to 120Hz. However, Google has significantly improved the display panel quality this time, including:
• Brightness Improvement: HDR brightness has been increased from 1800 nits to 2000 nits, and peak brightness has been boosted to 3000 nits (compared to 2700 nits in the previous generation), which will significantly improve the reading experience in bright outdoor light.
• Double the contrast:The screen contrast ratio has been increased from 1000000:1 to 2000000:1.
• Durability upgrade:The screen cover glass has finally said goodbye to the "long-used" Gorilla Glass 3 and been upgraded to the more scratch-resistant and drop-resistant Gorilla Glass 7i.
In terms of design, the Pixel 10a features a soft-focus aluminum alloy frame paired with a composite material back cover. It particularly emphasizes that its camera module is now flatter, allowing it to sit completely flat on a table. The device has an IP68 dust and water resistance rating and weighs approximately 183 grams.
The core specifications remain the same, but the charging weakness has been addressed.
In terms of hardware, the Pixel 10a features the same Tensor G4 processor and Titan M2 security chip as the Pixel 9 series, and is equipped with 8GB of RAM. Storage options remain at 128GB and 256GB.
While the difference in computing performance is minimal, the battery and charging specifications have been improved. The battery capacity remains at 5100mAh, with the official claim of over 30 hours of battery life under normal use, and up to 120 hours with "Ultra Power Saving Mode" enabled. Notably, the Pixel 10a finally supports faster 45W wired charging (with a compatible charger, it can charge to 50% in about 30 minutes), and the wireless charging power has also been slightly increased from 7.5W to 10W (still Qi wireless charging specification).
In addition, thanks to the new modem chip, the Pixel 10a also features Satellite SOS, filling the final piece of the security puzzle with flagship phones.
AI Photography Evolution: Macro Focus and Gemini Photography Coach
The camera hardware remains the same, featuring a 4800MP main lens and a 1300MP ultra-wide-angle lens in a dual-lens configuration. The front camera also retains its 1300MP resolution. While the hardware is unchanged, Google has implemented several new features through algorithms.
• Macro Focus:This is a feature not available on the Pixel 9a, allowing users to take closer photos of flowers, plants, or texture details.
• Camera Coach:This is the first time this feature has been introduced on the Pixel A series, utilizing the built-in Gemini AI model to analyze the scene and provide instant composition or shooting suggestions.
• Auto Best Take and Add Me:These AI features, originally exclusive to flagship phones, have also been fully rolled out to other phones.
Listing Information
The Pixel 10a comes pre-installed with Android 16 and comes with a 7-year warranty on operating system and security updates. It is available in four colors in both the Taiwan and US markets: Obsidian Black, Mystic Gray, Lavender Purple, and Strawberry Pink (256GB version only).
• 128GB version:NT$16490
• 256GB version:NT$19990
Pre-orders are now open on the Google Store, and early bird buyers can receive a NT$500 voucher or a discount on Pixel Buds A-Series.
Analysis of viewpoints
The launch of the Pixel 10a reflects the smartphone market's shift to a more gradual, incremental upgrade cycle. In terms of specifications, it doesn't represent the revolutionary changes seen between the Pixel 6a and 7a. Instead, it's more like a "complete version" that addresses user complaints about the Pixel 9a, such as insufficient screen brightness, glass durability, and slow charging.
For Pixel 9a users, the upgrade experience may be negligible; however, for users still using older Pixel models (such as the 6a and 7a), the Pixel 10a offers a brighter screen, longer battery life, and a complete Gemini AI experience, all at a sweet spot price, making it a highly competitive choice among mid-range Android phones.
In particular, Google's willingness to include satellite SOS functionality and the Gorilla Glass 7i design in the Pixel A series demonstrates its intention to extend the phone's lifespan and enhance its durability. This may be more appealing than the specifications themselves to consumers who don't pursue ultimate performance but want their phones to "use reliably for many years."
