Waze features will be gradually addedIntegration into Google MapsLater, Google will add traffic information reported in real time by the Waze user community to its map navigation function, and allow users to clearly know which traffic conditions are reported by Google Maps users and which are from Waze.
This update was announced at the end of July this year and will be applied to Android, iOS, Android Auto, CarPlay, and the standalone Android Automotive in-vehicle system.
The Waze team said that this feature was developed in collaboration with the Google Maps team. Through data exchange between the two parties, each other's user communities can report various road conditions in real time on the map, and aggregate the data uploaded by both user communities to present the most realistic real-time traffic conditions, allowing users to adjust their routes according to road traffic and real-time traffic conditions.
The number of global users of Google Maps exceeded 10 billion in October this year, while the number of users of Waze services reached 20 million in 2022. Although there is a significant gap in the number of users, Google previously revealed that the real-time traffic reports on the Waze service are relatively active. Therefore, integrating the real-time traffic report information of the two services will help users better understand the current traffic conditions.
Although Google Maps and Waze services currently operate independently, they are actually managed by the same team. However, the two services still focus on different usage needs. Waze focuses more on real-time traffic reports, so it added artificial intelligence in October this year.Simplify the reporting processfunctions, while Google Maps is mainly aimed at the needs of wider map usage and integrates more service functions.
