Google earlier announced that it would be releasing Google Maps for iOS for CarPlay.Release Update, and also provides a corresponding version for Apple Watch, allowing Google Maps services to be used on more Apple devices.
This update to the CarPlay user interface mainly adds support for the new split-screen display interface of CArPlay, allowing users to use Google Maps services through the CarPlay interface while controlling the playback of music services frequently used while driving, or having enough space to display the name of the road they should turn to next, or other more intuitive navigation information.
Google emphasized that the purpose of this update is to allow drivers to focus more on the navigation interface and to stay on the correct route through step-by-step navigation instructions, without the potential for misjudgment and missing the correct route as in the past.
In addition, this update re-releases the Google Maps navigation function that was added to Apple Watch in 2015. It can also take over the user's Google Maps navigation operations on the iPhone and present each navigation step in the form of cards. It also supports navigation modes such as walking, car, bicycle, or taking public transportation. Other functions also include the addition of estimated travel time function.
According to Google's instructions, the new version of Google Maps will be available for iOS devices to update and use starting today, while the version for Apple Watch will not be available on the App Store on Apple Watch until the next few weeks.
