Google's new venture unit Area 120 announced the launch ofAn experimental service called Orion Wifi, which will allow users to automatically switch to Wi-Fi hotspot signals in areas with poor telecommunications services, thereby improving connection problems.
According to the instructions, the Orion Wifi service cooperates with telecom operators and Wi-Fi hotspot service providers respectively. By helping to match Wi-Fi hotspot connection resources, users can quickly switch to Wi-Fi hotspot connection resources that cooperate with the Orion Wifi service when the network signal provided by the telecom operator is poor, thereby avoiding network connection interruption.
Compared to the previous advertising-supported operations in public transportation stations in Southeast Asia,Google Station free Wi-Fi serviceOrion Wifi service mainly plays a matchmaking role, allowing telecom operators to provide Internet services through Wi-Fi hotspot service providers in real time, allowing users to maintain an Internet experience in places with poor telecom service signals.
The benefit of this is that telecom operators can further establish cooperation with Wi-Fi hotspot service providers through the Orion Wifi service, and use Wi-Fi connection resources to prevent users from being disconnected from the Internet in areas with poor signals. It also reduces the cost of setting up base stations in specific areas. By simply purchasing Wi-Fi hotspot network signal resources at a relatively low cost, the network rights of users of their services can be guaranteed.
Currently, Orion Wifi service has cooperated with telecommunications operators, Wi-Fi hotspot service providers, and Wi-Fi equipment manufacturers. It is also cooperating with real estate companies to promote its services to more office buildings, stores, shopping malls, restaurants, transfer stations, hospitals and other locations. It also plans to promote the application of this service in more public areas in cities across the United States.
In addition, Orion Wifi service is also working with the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) to create a new OpenRoaming standard, which will allow users to more easily switch between different Wi-Fi network signals and maintain a constant connection.
