GoogleAnnounceWith its large natural language modelPALM 2The enhanced translation function has added 110 languages to Google Translate, including most African languages and even Cantonese wording in Chinese to make it more in line with Chinese translation habits in Hong Kong.
Since the last time in May 2022Significantly updatedGoogle Translate service, and after subsequently announcing that it would use artificial intelligence technology to enhance translation quality, Google also used the PaLM 2 model in this update to learn the translation language close to the language family, so that its translation quality can be further improved.
According to Isaac Caswell, a senior software engineer at Google Translate, using the learning capabilities of the PaLM 2 model will enable the system to more quickly learn Indo-European languages such as Awadhi and Malwa, or Creole languages that use a mixture of French and English, through Hindi. Google Translate will also continue to collaborate with language experts and more native speakers in the future to enable it to accommodate more languages and spellings.
This update will benefit approximately 6.14 million people worldwide (equal to 8% of the world's population), with approximately a quarter of the languages included being languages spoken in Africa. The update will include a web version of Google Translate, as well as versions for iOS and Android, making it easier for users to use across different devices and platforms.
