PressIt is said that Google CEO Sundar Pichai discussed with senior executives of parent company Alphabet at the beginning of last year whether to completely withdraw from the competition in the cloud platform service market, but ultimately still set a goal of achieving first or second market share by 2023.
Currently, the cloud service platform market is still dominated by Amazon's AWS and Microsoft's Azure, which hold the first and second place in market share. Even though Google Cloud services have been developing in the market for a long time, they have not been able to reverse their market share performance.
Therefore, Google and its parent company Alphabet discussed at the beginning of last year whether to continue investing in development or completely withdraw from market competition.
In subsequent discussions, Google CEO Sundar Pichai believed that the company should continue to invest in cloud service platforms and formulate a plan to invest $5 billion in remote service development over the next five years. He also expected to surpass Amazon or Microsoft by 200.
Although Google believes in the importance of investing in the development of cloud services, it has never been able to surpass Amazon or Microsoft in this market. In fact, it may also face doubts from investors, which may affect future investments.
However, Google later responded that the report was inconsistent with the facts, and also denied that it had internally discussed whether to withdraw from the cloud service market last year.
