Google earlier built its AI assistant Gemini with..."In-depth research" (Deep Research) feature bringsMajor UpdatesThis feature, previously launched at the end of last year, primarily utilizes online sources to generate comprehensive reports on complex topics for users; this update will officially import users' personal Google Workspace data, including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, and Google Chat records.
Integrate personal data to produce analytical reports that are more closely aligned with individual needs.
Google states that integrating personal workspace data is "one of the most requested features" for this tool. After the update, Gemini will no longer be limited to using publicly available online sources, but will be able to access and integrate users' emails, slides, Docs, Sheets, and PDF files from cloud drives, as well as chat logs for reference.
This means that Gemini will be able to produce more personalized reports. For example, when a user asks the AI to write a marketing analysis, the AI will be able to automatically incorporate the user's notes stored in Google Drive, relevant discussions among team members in Gmail, and even cross-reference these internal information with publicly available data to create a more in-depth competitive analysis spreadsheet.
Supports manual on/off switching to ensure user data privacy.
With privacy in mind, Google emphasizes that users will have complete control over the scope of data that AI can access. When users click on the "Deep Dive" tool in Gemini, they will see a drop-down menu where they can individually select whether to allow Gemini to access content from different services such as Search, Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Chat.
Free to use, desktop version available first.
This new "Deep Research" feature, which integrates Workspace data, will be available to all users free of charge (no subscription required). This update is currently available on the desktop version of Gemini, and Google has announced that it will be available on mobile devices (iOS/Android) "in the coming days."
