GoogleAnnounce, its information recommendation platform Google Discover will no longer only display news and articles from websites. It will also add posts from social platforms such as Instagram and "X". It will also be able to capture YouTube Shorts short videos, allowing users to browse more diverse content information in a single information flow.

Create a more complete content browsing experience

Google stated that most users expressed a desire for Google Discover to integrate more diverse content, not just news or in-depth articles. Therefore, this update will make Google Discover more like a personalized multimedia information center. Besides text content, users can also quickly view popular videos, social media updates, and even short videos, reducing the need for users to switch between different platforms.

This revision is expected to be gradually pushed out in the next few weeks. The updated Google Discovery function will provide more interactive methods, including browsing short videos directly in the news feed, viewing social posts, and clicking on the creator's name to enter the exclusive page to preview more content and then decide whether to follow the creator's channel.

Support tracking creators and media

In addition to expanding content types, Google is also launching a new follower feature, allowing users to follow specific creators, media outlets, or channels directly in Google Discover. This will allow them to see posts or videos from those creators more frequently in their news feeds. This design is similar to the "Preferred News Sources" setting recently introduced in Google's search function, giving users greater control over their personalized content.

Google also emphasized that every post or video in Google Discover can be previewed, allowing users to decide whether to include it in their daily browsing and avoid the information flow being disturbed by too much irrelevant content.

AI and automation tools continue to support

In fact, this isn't the first update to Google Discover. Earlier this year, Google added AI-powered summaries to the feature and experimented with automatically converting recommended content into a podcast-like audio format for easy on-the-go listening. The integration of more social media posts and short videos further strengthens Google Discover's role as an information aggregation platform.

Make Google Discover more relevant to your daily habits

As social content and short videos become a daily source of information for many, Google's redesign not only responds to market trends but also aligns with the growth strategy of YouTube Shorts. For creators, this also means that, in addition to YouTube and social media platforms, Google must explore and incorporate it as a key channel for reaching new audiences.

Overall, this update allows Google to explore evolving from a simple news recommendation tool into a more personalized, multi-media content portal. In the future, whether you want to follow the news, watch short videos, or even follow the updates of specific creators, you can do it all within the same information flow, which will have a positive impact on both the user experience and the content creator ecosystem.
