Launched on SamsungGalaxy RingWith many brands launching smart rings, market speculation is growing about whether Google might also release a corresponding smart ring under the Pixel brand. At the Made by Google 2025 event, Google hinted that if it were to release a smart ring, it would likely be under the Fitbit brand, not the Pixel.
Although acquired by Google and after subsequent business adjustments, Fitbit has retained its brand operations, but related hardware products have almost been incorporated into the Pixel brand. The Fitbit brand has not launched any new hardware products for a long time, but from what Google has revealed so far, it seems that it is still possible to launch subsequent products under the Fitbit brand.
Sandeep Waraich, Senior Director of Product Management for Wearables at Google, stated in an interview that the Google team sees significant market opportunity for "a discrete device with long-lasting battery life, a simple user experience, and a focus on health and fitness." He also revealed that while Fitbit's product portfolio is robust, it hasn't been updated in a while, potentially presenting a new entry point.
Rishi Chandra, general manager of Google Health and Home, also expressed his belief that new device forms will emerge in the future, but he also cautiously added that it is still too early to talk about specific products and the team is in the internal "experimental stage."
Although it has not been confirmed whether Google will launch new products under the Fitbit brand, it highlights that Google is still considering injecting new momentum into the Fitbit brand. The smart rings currently being actively promoted in the market seem to meet the product features mentioned by Google, and are also consistent with Fitbit's previous use of smart bracelets to lock in the long-term wearing experience.
For many users who are uncomfortable wearing watches while sleeping, smart rings offer a more comfortable and effective sleep tracking solution. Given Fitbit's long-standing expertise in precise algorithms and data analysis in sleep and activity tracking, applying these core technologies to a ring-shaped device could potentially unlock even greater market potential.
