Android Authority websiteConfirmed information has been obtained from Google, indicating that the remote controls of future Google TV televisions and set-top boxes will include a button to quickly access free TV program content.
Prior to this, Google had already added buttons to the remote controls of its early Android TV and later Google TV products, allowing users to more quickly access pre-installed Amazon Prime services, or streaming video services such as Neflix, Disney+, and Paramount+. This time, it has been confirmed that an additional button labeled "Free TV" or "Free Play" will be added to allow users to more intuitively access Google TV's added advertising-supported channel services.
Some products currently using Google TV, such as the onn. Google TV 4K Pro set-top box from Walmart, have a remote control that features a blue "Free TV" button prominently located in the center. Other buttons correspond to streaming video services such as Amazon Prime, Neflix, Disney+, and Paramount+.
Google has currently added multimedia player Plex, news aggregation service Haystack News, and free streaming video service Tubi to Google TV. It also includes American news channels such as NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX, and provides programs in languages such as Spanish, Indian and Japanese. In total, more than 800 free channels have been added. The goal is to increase revenue through advertising support, make it more convenient for users to use TV products, and compete in the TV market with industry players such as Roku, Amazon, Apple, and even Samsung.
