Google earlier confirmed that it had purchasedData centerThe land will be used for construction to accommodate the future expansion plan of the data center in Taiwan.
According to Mark Dolan, project leader for Google's Global Infrastructure and Energy Data Center, the land acquisition in Tainan also went through a rigorous site selection process, evaluating technology and various factors before ultimately choosing Tainan as the location for the data center.
Mark Dolan also stated that the site selection process was made possible with the assistance of the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Tainan City Government, the Tainan Science and Technology Industrial Park, the Taiwan Power Company, and many other partners. He also emphasized the importance of development in Taiwan. Not only did the company choose Changhua to open Taiwan's first data center in 2013, but it has also continued to actively invest in the Taiwanese market and established a new office in the Far Eastern Science Park in Banqiao District, New Taipei City.
In addition to purchasing land to build the data center, Google also stated that it is also providing waste management projects, recently opened electric vehicle charging stations, and providingsolar power plantsPurchase 10MW (kilowatts) of renewable energy electricity.
In addition, through the Data Center Community Grant Program, Google supports the development of communities near Taiwan's data centers. Since 2015, more than 40 public schools and non-profit organizations, as well as more than 50 projects to help local community development, have invested in the program, with a total cumulative funding of US$43 (approximately NT$1350 million). The funding is mainly used to support STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education, help bridge the digital divide, and develop and maintain the regional ecosystem.
As Google continues to expand its data center operations in Taiwan, it also expects to create more job opportunities in Taiwan. For example, last year, it recruited interns for its data center in Taiwan. Currently, several interns have been hired as full-time employees after graduation, and the internship program will continue to expand in the future.
