Google recently announced it will expand its investment in Texas, a state where it has been based for over 15 years. The plan involves investing an additional $400 billion by 2027 to build new cloud and AI infrastructure, including new data center campuses in Armstrong and Haskell counties.
Combining renewable energy, Haskell County will build solar and energy storage power plants.
Google emphasized that this infrastructure expansion will be carried out in a "responsible" manner. To this end, Google announced the establishment of a $3000 million "Energy Impact Fund" to accelerate and expand local energy initiatives.
In addition, Google will support more than 6200 MW (megawatts) of renewable energy generation and capacity through power purchase agreements (PPAs). Among them, the new data center in Haskell County will be built directly adjacent to a new solar and battery storage power plant.
Develop local talent; train 1700 electricians by 2030.
In terms of talent development, Google also announced its support for the "Electrical Training Alliance." The goal is to help train existing electricians in Texas, as well as more than 1700 apprentices, by 2030. Google points out that this move is expected to more than double the state's anticipated workforce of new electricians.
Google stated that this latest investment in Texas is not only to support the local workforce and infrastructure, but also to ensure that the United States "retains its technological backbone to lead global AI development."
