Google showcases smart glasses in partnership with Xreal at Google I/O 2025Project AuraEarlier, XREAL CEO Xu Chi confirmed at an event in Japan that this smart glasses will be launched in the Japanese market in 2026.
Unveiled at Google I/O 2025, Project Aura resembles a pair of glasses and utilizes a Qualcomm processor and XREAL's next-generation spatial computing chip, the XREAL X1S. It offers both optical see-through (OST) and virtual see-through (VST) modes. It requires a tethered connection to a phone and supports the Android XR platform. It also fully supports Google Gemini's generative AI technology, further expanding augmented reality usage scenarios and interactive capabilities.
XREAL originally planned to launch Project Aura by the end of this year, but that was later postponed to 2026. The company announced that the Japanese market launch will be simultaneous with the US market, and revealed that a formal release announcement will be made later.
As to whether it will be launched simultaneously in international markets such as Taiwan, it cannot be confirmed at the moment.
