Operated by Google itself, and renamed last yearGoogle FiThe virtual mobile nominee (MVNO) earlier announced the launch of an all-you-can-eat internet plan, offering free calls to more than 50 countries and regions (including Taiwan) and 100GB of Google One cloud storage service.
However, if you choose to use the unlimited internet plan, the price is that one person has to pay US$70 per month. If 6 people apply together, the fee can be reduced to US$45 per person per month. You can still enjoy free calls in more than 50 countries and regions, as well as 100GB of Google One cloud storage service.
Compared to Google Fi's basic plan, one person has to pay a basic fee of $20 per month, plus a network transmission fee of $1 per 10GB. At the same time, international calls will be charged at 1 cent per minute. However, after the network traffic usage exceeds 6GB, the system will activate the bill protection mechanism. If the total network traffic does not exceed 15GB, the total amount will be maintained at $80 (US$20 + US$60), which is equivalent to using an unlimited Internet plan.
Even though Google Fi boasts unlimited data for $70 per month, it still has some underlying rules: data usage is capped at 22GB. Beyond that, users can still use the service, but at a reduced speed. This is the same as the original plan: once users exceed 15GB of data, data transfer speeds will be throttled unless they pay extra to restore data speeds.
As for the free calls within the United States, international calls that do not support free calls are also charged at 1 cent per minute. It also supports hotspot sharing, no contract, and can be canceled or suspended at any time. The unlimited Internet plan is no different from the general basic fee plan and can also be shared by up to 6 people at the same time.
Of course, if compared to Taiwan's low-cost unlimited data plans, Google Fi's current plan isn't exactly cheap. However, compared to US carriers' plans, it offers free calls, greater flexibility, and the convenience of using the same data and call rates in different countries, making it a convenient option for frequent travelers.
