Gogoro announced that it has been granted a battery swap sandbox pilot program by the Land Transport Authority of Singapore, and will work with Jardine Cycle & Carriage to establish a two-wheeled electric scooter and battery swap partnership in Singapore.
Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) will conduct a sandbox pilot program using the Gogoro battery swap system to verify whether the Gogoro battery swap system can serve as the best solution for the next generation of smart mobility.
Cycle & Carriage (Cycle & Carriage), a subsidiary of Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited, has become the exclusive distributor of Gogoro smart electric scooters in Singapore, and will operate and deploy Gogoro's battery swap infrastructure in Singapore.
Gogoro founder and CEO Xuesen Luke said cities urgently need sustainable transportation solutions, not only for consumers but also for businesses. Gogoro's battery swap ecosystem technology can provide a safe, reliable, scalable, and permanently viable sustainable path for city fleets. In Taiwan, more than a quarter of commercial motorcycle deliveries, such as online shopping and food delivery businesses, use Gogoro's battery swap ecosystem. Among those using electric scooters for commercial deliveries, the proportion using Gogoro's battery swap system is almost 100%. We will work with Jardine Cycle & Carriage Group to launch this new sustainable business model in Singapore and other cities in the future for food delivery and logistics fleets.
Wilfrid Foo, General Manager of Direct Motor Interests at Jardine Hawthorne Limited, stated, "In support of Singapore's 2030 Green Blueprint, we are delighted to partner with Gogoro to bring innovative smart electric two-wheeler solutions to the city-state. We are confident that we can continue to deploy the Gogoro battery swap system on top of our existing infrastructure and operate the battery swap network in Singapore, accelerating the development of Gogoro's world-leading battery swap solutions. We and Gogoro are seeking like-minded partners in the delivery or logistics sectors to jointly leverage and benefit from the potential of the battery swap network."
The upcoming Gogoro Battery Swap Sandbox pilot program will include Gogoro smart electric scooters, GoStation battery swap stations, and Gogoro smart batteries. Hop Huat will manage Gogoro's battery swap network and fleet in Singapore. Hop Huat will also seek partnerships with local food delivery and logistics fleets in Singapore.
The Gogoro Battery Swap Sandbox Pilot Programme also supports Singapore’s Green Development Blueprint 2030 and its vision of transitioning to sustainable energy and transport.
