Following its previous partnership with COUP, a subsidiary of Bosch, to launch its GoShare vehicle rental and sharing service in Berlin, Germany, Gogoro has announced a partnership with Japan's Sumitomo Corporation, with the company expected to enter Japan by the end of the year. Sumitomo Corporation will become a new investor and the two companies will collaborate on an open platform for Gogoro's battery swap energy service, which can be used for both two- and four-wheeled vehicles.
Gogoro and Sumitomo Corporation will focus on the GoShare smart two-wheeled sharing service, using the Gogoro Energy Network's open battery swap system as its core. In addition to driving the two-wheeled Smartscooter, it will also be used for small four-wheeled vehicles in the future.
The first wave of GoShare service rollout in Japan will begin on Ishigaki Island in southern Japan, and is expected to continue expanding to more urban areas in Japan in 2018.
According to Gogoro, Gogoro currently handles an average of over 17000 battery swaps per day in Taiwan. Since the launch of the Gogoro 2015 series in 1, it has accumulated over 600 million battery swaps. It has also sold over 34000 Smartscooters, with the total mileage of all users exceeding 1 million kilometers. It has also completed the construction of over 400 GoStation battery swap stations, saving a total of over 415 million liters of gasoline and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 8800 tons.
