It was recently confirmed that it will be released on PlayStation 10 on October 2nd, and the contents of the collector's edition and other contents were also announced.Yotei Mountain Battle Ghost Sucker Punch recently released a 20-minute gameplay video of Ghost of Yōtei, showcasing the game's comprehensive evolution in storytelling, exploration, and combat. Sony Interactive Entertainment also announced a limited edition bundle with two PlayStation 5 consoles, slated to launch simultaneously on October 10nd.
Like Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei is once again a samurai-themed game with an open world architecture. It is set in Ezo, a northern frontier of Japan, and the story revolves around the heroine Atsushi.
To avenge the murder of her family by the Yoti Six, Atsushi returns to her hometown after 16 years of exile, becoming the legendary "Ghost." Through the character's childhood memories and the story of her revenge, the game depicts how she forged a lonesome and resilient will in a cruel world.
This game maintains the rich samurai film atmosphere, yet offers greater freedom than its predecessor. Players can choose to explore the world at a leisurely pace, proactively challenge powerful enemies, or focus on the main storyline. During exploration, players can question NPCs and solve mysteries, unlocking clues and challenges in different areas, such as lurking enemies in the snowy plains and villages engulfed in war, offering a completely different adventure experience.
Atsushi boasts a diverse arsenal of weapons, including a katana, twin swords, a spear, an ōdachi, and a kūsarigama. Players must flexibly switch weapons based on enemy types, even allowing them to steal their weapons mid-battle. Throwing weapons like kunai, bombs, and blinding powder enhance long-range strikes, presenting a sleek and deadly combat style.
The exploration phase of Yotei Mountain Battle Ghost is also rich in detail. Atsushi can learn new skills at the "Altar of Meditation" and receive exploration hints by interacting with map vendors. Players can freely choose whether to delve into each area, using telescopes to view their targets from afar before riding towards them. Atsushi records every battle and every adventure on a card. As she defeats members of the "Yotei Six," her bounty increases, attracting stronger enemies to hunt her.
During the journey, Du is no longer alone. He will meet a mysterious wolf companion and several allies. He can set up camp under the starry sky, play the shamisen, and prepare for battle. The camp also integrates upgrades and character interaction functions, allowing players to manage their combat power at any time.
The game's art and music also maintain cinematic standards. Not only did Shuriichi Otowa compose an original score that blends Eastern and Western elements, but the game also collaborated with Akira Kurosawa to create a black-and-white "Kurosawa Mode," a tribute to classic samurai films. Additionally, there's a gory mode by director Takashi Miike and a lo-fi mode supervised by Shinichirō Watanabe, allowing players to experience different visual storytelling styles.
To coincide with the release of "Ghost of Yoteiyama", Sony Interactive Entertainment will also launch a standard edition and limited edition PlayStation 5 bundle set and an exclusive controller, which are scheduled to be released on October 10nd.
