After the release of the Pixel 10 series of mobile phones, Pixel Watch 4, and Pixel Buds 2a, Google also officially unveiled a new generation of assistant services for smart homes.Gemini for HomeIt is expected to be opened to smart displays and smart speakers through Early Access in October 2025, and will gradually replace the existing Google Assistant.
It is worth noting that Gemini for Home will be divided into free and paid versions, indicating that Google intends to expand the subscription service market through smart home AI assistants, which is strategically similar to Amazon'sAlexa+Services take a similar direction.
More natural interactive experience
Google first showcased Gemini's smart home applications at CES 2025 earlier this year, emphasizing that generative AI can eliminate the awkwardness of human-computer interaction, allowing users to complete operations through natural language conversations rather than being constrained by standardized voice commands.
Through multimodal understanding capabilities, Gemini can also integrate input from other Nest devices, such as calling up surveillance footage, to answer more complex questions or provide real-time suggestions.
With its official launch in Early Access in October, Google says Gemini for Home will fully deliver the aforementioned experiences and integrate Gemini Live for even more personalized interactions. For example, when a user asks about the weather or their schedule, Gemini can simultaneously reference calendar information, email, and real-time sensor information to provide a more contextual response.
Subscription model to be announced
Although Google has confirmed that Gemini for Home will have free and paid versions, the specific costs and feature differences have not yet been disclosed.
Earlier during CES, Google revealed that users of the Nest Aware service who subscribe for $10 per month will be the first to experience it. Therefore, the market speculates that the paid version of Gemini for Home may be bundled with the Nest Aware service or launched as an independent additional service.
Offering a paid subscription plan for its digital assistant service not only means that Google's smart home layout will gradually shift to an operating model centered on AI subscription services, but also means that subscription services will increase Google's revenue sources beyond hardware sales.
Hardware updates may be released simultaneously
Currently, Google has only revealed the service plan for Gemini for Home and has not yet mentioned the details of the related smart home hardware updates.
Since the Nest Hub series of products has not been updated since 2021, the market expects that Google may launch a new smart display or speaker at the same time as the Gemini for Home service is officially launched to ensure that the hardware performance is sufficient to take advantage of multimodal AI.
Building a complete AI ecosystem
With the Pixel 10 series equipped with the Tensor G5 processor for enhanced AI computing performance, the Pixel Watch 4 adding an AI health coach, and the Pixel Buds 2a integrating the Gemini Live service, Google is gradually incorporating its generative AI technology into more mobile phones, wearable devices, and smart home scenarios, and establishing a complete ecosystem with Gemini at its core.
The launch of the Gemini for Home service symbolizes that Google not only wants to improve the user experience of home assistants, but also regards AI subscriptions as an important pillar of revenue growth in the next stage.
