In addition to unveiling the GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card, which is also built with the Turing display architecture, NVIDIA also announced at the pre-CES 2019 event that the GeForce RTX 20 series will enter the thin and light gaming laptop products as rumored, and will be designed in Max-Q form to maintain performance and optimal power consumption balance. It is expected that after January 1, at least 29 models will be launched by brand manufacturers including ASUS, Acer, Alienware, GIGABYTE, Lenovo, HP, MSI, Razer, and Dell. It is expected that more than 17 models will be released this year.
In the past, the Pascal display architecture took advantage of TSMC's 16nm FinFET process technology, allowing the GeForce GTX 10 series graphics cards to be used in gaming laptops in the form of Max-Q design, thereby improving the display computing performance of laptops without sacrificing too much computing performance, while also ensuring that the gaming laptop body maintains a thin and light design. This time, the Turing display architecture using TSMC's 12nm FinFET process also uses low power consumption characteristics to allow the GeForce 20 series graphics cards to be used in gaming laptops in the form of Max-Q, and bring higher computing display performance and new technology applications such as real-time ray tracing.
Although the same graphics card chip as that used in desktop computers is used in notebook products, the actual specifications will still be adjusted to a certain extent considering the usage characteristics of the notebook, but there will not be the problem of sacrificing too much performance like previous mobile graphics cards. It can even further balance and optimize performance and power consumption, so that the display performance of the notebook can be specifically improved without affecting the battery life performance.
However, this time only three graphics cards, GeForce RTX 2080, GeForce RTX 2070 and GeForce RTX 2060, will be included in laptop products, but the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti was omitted. Apparently, this is because the overall power consumption and heat dissipation cannot be smoothly matched to laptop products, so it is not currently included in the list.
According to the information released this time, NVIDIA claims that the Max-Q design gaming laptop equipped with the GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card will have at least twice the performance of the PlayStation 4 game console. Even if only the GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card specifications are used, the performance will be at least 1.6 times higher. Other features include real-time ray tracing display effects corresponding to a frame refresh rate of more than 60fps, and the laptop body can also be made thinner and lighter.
Since it is designed directly as a desktop graphics card, it is also compatible with the features provided by GeForce Experience including Ansel.
