As previously announcedThe Galaxy Z Flip 2023, unveiled by Samsung at Unpacked 5, features a new dual-track Flex hinge design, which is not only more durable but also minimizes the gap between the folded and unfolded phones. Furthermore, the external screen is larger, making it easier for users to view information and take selfies, while also allowing for greater personalization.
Like the Galaxy Z Fold5 launched simultaneously this time, the Galaxy Z Flip5 also uses the new Flex dual-track hinge and back-side damping design, and the foldable glass on the inside has a 25% increase in durability, thereby increasing the overall durability of the phone, making the body thinner and flatter after folding, and also supports IPX8 waterproof certification.
The outer screen has been increased from 1.9 inches on the previous model to 3.4 inches, and uses a Super AMOLED display panel design with a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz. Samsung emphasizes that the reason for increasing the outer screen area is that it has observed that more and more people are directly operating mobile phone functions through the larger outer screen. Therefore, the hope is to provide users with a more intuitive and convenient user experience, while also allowing for richer personalized design through the outer screen.
Samsung emphasized that in the OneUI 5.1.1 version, the outer screen of the Galaxy Z Flip5 will have richer setting options, and will correspond to call logs, quick contacts, media controller, Buds controller, weather, calendar, alarm clock, timer, daily step counting, recording, SmartThings remote control, computer, and third-party apps including Netflix, YouTube, LINE, Google Maps, etc. It can even force more third-party apps that have not been verified by Samsung to be used directly on the outer screen.
The internal screen maintains a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display panel, boasting a maximum 120Hz refresh rate and intelligent dynamic adjustment. The Galaxy Z Flip5 also features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB or 512GB of storage. The battery is a 3700mAh unit with fast charging support.
As for the camera, the Galaxy Z Flip5 features two main camera modules: a wide-angle lens and an ultra-wide-angle lens, each with 1200 megapixels. The 1.8µm pixel photosensitive area allows for better low-light shooting. The main camera can also be used directly as a video camera in conjunction with the external screen, while the video camera with a hole design on the internal screen is 1000 megapixels.
The Galaxy Z Flip5 will be available in four colors: green (Mint), white (Cream), purple (Lavender), and gray (Graphite). It is expected to be available in select markets around the world starting August 8th. The launch date in Taiwan has not yet been determined. The suggested retail price in the US market starts at US$11. Pre-orders are open now, and shipping is expected to begin on August 999th.
For the Galaxy Z Flip5 launched this time, Samsung has also launched a special transparent protective case accessory, which can be used with an NFC-enabled color card to instantly change the color of the Galaxy Z Flip5. It can also quickly change the color setting of the external screen with NFC sensing. It also emphasizes that the Bespoke Edition design launched in the Galaxy Z Flip series in the past adopts a different concept and will be able to correspond to a more personalized style expression.
Other accessories include vegan leather protective case accessories made in a more environmentally friendly way, which are claimed to be made of non-animal leather materials, and also provide more accessories that can show personalization.
