PayPay, a payment service company jointly established by Softbank and Yahoo Japan at the time, announced earlier that it will begin supporting Taiwan Jiekou Pay, E.Sun Wallet, and other payment services in October this year. Users can directly use these three payment services to scan the PayPay QR Code at various retail channels in Japan to complete payment.
At the same time, in order to attract more Taiwanese tourists to use PayPay services for consumption, PayPay announced that all transactions will not charge a 1.5% overseas transaction fee, thereby increasing Taiwanese tourists' willingness to consume through PayPay payment services in Japan.
Currently, the PayPay payment service has a very high visibility in retail channels and various stores in Japan. Many places that originally only accepted cash have begun to accept payments through the PayPay payment service. Therefore, if combined with the Suica Card (also very popular in Japan) for small-value payments, it will be possible to make purchases in Japan almost without using cash.
The reason why the 1.5% overseas transaction fee is not charged is that the payment method for this cooperation is through the HIVEX cross-border payment cooperation platform, not through the credit card authentication transaction process. Therefore, it is actually deducted by deducting the pre-deposited amount in Jiekou Pay, Yushan Wallet, and All Payment Services, or through the bank account linked to the service. At the same time, the actual transaction will be calculated based on the current corresponding exchange rate of the HIVEX cross-border payment cooperation platform.
In addition to supporting Taiwan's payment services, PayPay now also supports Hong Kong's AlipayHK, China's Alipay, South Korea's KAKAO Pay, Thailand's TrueMoney, Malaysia's Touch 'n Go eWallet, and the Philippines' GCash and HelloMoney by AUB, allowing more international tourists to spend more conveniently in Japan.
On the other hand, although the PayPay payment service has been completed with the merger of LINE and Yahoo Japan, and LINE Pay services in Japan can now use PayPay QRCode to pay for purchases, Taiwan LINE Pay is still not available for use in Japan. Therefore, at this stage, it is still not possible to directly use Taiwan LINE Pay services for purchases in Japan.
