The French competition authority earlier filed a complaint against Apple for abusing its dominant position in device-targeted advertising.A fine of 1.5 billion euros.
In the statement, the French Competition Authority believes that Apple launched the "App Tracking Transparency" mechanism in April 2021. Although it is stated that it is for the purpose of protecting personal privacy, it actually favors Apple's own services, thereby affecting the rights and interests of third-party apps.
The French Competition Authority pointed out that Apple's mechanism increases the complexity of third-party app operations on iPhones and iPads, while making the use of Apple's own apps simpler. This will have a particularly great impact on small developers and publishers that rely on in-app advertising exposure to share profits.
The French Competition Authority said that this time the fine was mainly aimed at Apple's violations from April 2021 to July 4, and required Apple to publish a summary of the reasons for the penalty on its official website for seven consecutive days.
