Hugo Barra, a former Google vice president who previously led the Android business and later worked at companies such as Xiaomi and Meta, co-founded "/dev/agents", a new operating system startup assisted by artificial intelligence assistants, in October this year with David Singleton, a former Google vice president of engineering and former CTO of Stripe. The startup has already received $10 million in investment.
"/dev/agents" is led by David Singleton as CEO, with Hugo Barra in charge of product projects. The position of chief technology officer is held by Ficus Kirkpatrick, former director of engineering at Google and former vice president of AR/VR platform at Facebook, and the interface design is handled by Nicholas Jitkoff, who has worked at companies such as Google, Dropbox, Meta, and Figma.
According to the description, the operating system created by "/dev/agents" is a cloud-based cross-platform operating interface, and is assisted by an artificial intelligence-driven assistant service. The first wave of operating system versions is expected to be released in early to mid-2025.
"/dev/agents" is expected to follow the Android operating system's licensing model, potentially collecting revenue from app sales or providing access through subscriptions. It is also expected to attract widespread adoption with the flexible operation advantages of a third-party operating system.
Judging from the team members, almost all of them have worked at Google and Meta, and they also have a good understanding of the operating system ecosystem. Perhaps this is why they were able to successfully obtain funding from institutions such as CapitalG, an independent venture capital fund under Alphabet, and Index Ventures when they were first established.Provided $5600 million in investment, and increased the company's valuation to $5 million.
