foodpanda, in partnership with the Tainan City Government, has announced the launch of delivery services from Tainan's traditional markets. The service is partnering with seven morning markets across six administrative districts, covering 7% of Tainan's population. The service offers online ordering and delivery of over 60 items, including fresh produce, fruits and vegetables, prepared foods, and dry goods.
Foodpanda launched its first traditional market consumption demand survey for Tainan residents and found that among young people aged 20 to 39, only 2% would go to traditional markets to purchase. However, with the help of food delivery platforms, more than 6% of young people would increase their willingness to purchase from traditional markets.
This time, we are collaborating with the Tainan City Government to integrate the foodpanda delivery service platform with traditional market products, allowing users to purchase various traditional market products through online ordering. This will help traditional markets undergo digital transformation, while also opening up new customer bases. By overcoming time and space constraints, more young consumers can easily purchase differentiated products such as warm meats, fresh fruits and vegetables that are only available in traditional markets.
The traditional markets involved in this collaboration include Yongkang Market, Tucheng Market, Dongcai Market, Xinshi Market, Benyuanliao Market, Jinhua Market, and Madou Market, offering fresh produce such as meat, seafood, fruits and vegetables, as well as cooked dishes such as braised food, salted chicken, and rice cakes. Examples include Hong Jie's Private Cuisine, a five-star Lohas stall winner; Dechun Rice Cake, a must-try for locals; A Yan's fresh chicken/braised food, winner of the Top Ten Braised Foods Championship; and Liu Ji's smoked braised food, a 50-year-old specialty.
Huang Yihua, General Manager of foodpanda Taiwan, said, "We've observed that some young consumers shop at traditional markets due to fewer time and location constraints. Expanding this younger demographic is a major pain point for vendors. The average age of foodpanda users is between 25 and 45. By leveraging the platform's powerful transportation capabilities and data-driven capabilities, we're breaking down time and location constraints, increasing young consumers' willingness to purchase food from traditional markets. We hope to become a driving force behind the resurgence of Tainan's traditional markets!"
