Meta earlierAnnounce, will follow the footsteps of Microsoft, Mozilla and Samsung and will replace the built-in browser of the Facebook app on the Android platform with its own design based on the Chromium architecture.
The reason Meta made this adjustment is that the built-in browser of the Facebook app originally used the System WebView browser engine defaulted by the Android operating system. However, most users only update the Facebook app version through the Google Play Store, but do not update the Chrome browser and System WebView component versions through the Google Play Store at the same time. Therefore, many loopholes may appear in browsing security.
In addition to potentially affecting browsing security, failure to update the System WebView component version may also cause instability in the operation of the Android version of the Facebook app or even cause crashes.
Therefore, based on these considerations, Meta decided to use the Chromium architecture as the basis and change the built-in browser of Facebook to its own design, so that users can update the built-in browser function when updating the Facebook app, and allow the Facebook app to maintain more stable performance.
However, due to the flexibility of the Android operating system, users can still choose to open web content in different browsers within the Facebook app.
