Last year, it was announced that the "Quantum Project" would be builtNew browser engine QuantumLater, Mozilla introduced a new design in the new version of Firefox, version 53. By switching to an independent graphics computing mode and adding independent GPU acceleration, the browser can display graphic content more efficiently and significantly reduce the problem of image crashes in the previous Windows environment.
According to Mozilla's testing, the new Quantum browser engine can reduce browser crashes by approximately 10%, and will also improve browsing performance for Windows computers equipped with NVIDIA or AMD discrete graphics cards. However, for Mac devices, since macOS's graphics processing is already quite stable, there is no particularly noticeable difference.
In the new version of the browser, Mozilla has added two new, simple themes: "Compact Light" and "Compact Dark." They further reduce the interface size while retaining Firefox's default light theme. Furthermore, the "Compact Dark" theme swaps colors to reduce eye strain in low-light environments.
At the same time, the Android version of Firefox also released a more streamlined tab setting. When switching tabs in the new version of settings, the tabs will be displayed in a two-column format, making it easier to switch tabs. And with this update, the desktop version of Firefox adopts a redesigned interface. By simplifying the process of granting access rights and subsequently managing website permissions, it is easier for users to understand the access permission type requested by website content, and it is more intuitive to change website access permissions through the address bar.
This update also includes support for Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Urdu, and adds an estimated remaining reading time display to the reading mode of Firefox on Android and desktop. In addition, you can transfer tabbed browsing content between desktop and mobile devices by right-clicking on the tab, and strengthen the protection of HTTPS encrypted connection browsing mode with the TLS 1.3 security protocol.
