Since its official launch on June 6, it has sold more than 22 million sets in the global market.Final Fantasy XVIToday (June 6), producer Naoki Yoshida, who visited Taiwan for the first time, revealed the hard work put into the development of the game.
Naoki Yoshida expressed his hope to leverage the PlayStation 5's computing power to deliver a more intuitive and immersive Final Fantasy XVI experience. He hopes to achieve a gaming experience with zero loading latency and more detailed visuals, and has therefore invested heavily in pre-processing designs to make the game run more smoothly.
At the same time, Naoki Yoshida also explained that "Final Fantasy XVI" is the orthodox sequel of the series released again after 7 years. Many players who supported the series in the past may have entered different age groups from children and teenagers. Therefore, this work adopts a design that is more suitable for all ages to play, and for the first time introduces a full real-time combat mechanism, allowing players to switch seamlessly between the story and the battle process more quickly.
On the other hand, the complete story structure has also become the design focus of "Final Fantasy XVI". Therefore, unlike previous works, the main gameplay axis may be easily affected by the use of an open world structure, and there may even be a situation where the subsequent story ends hastily. The emphasis is on satisfying all players.
Of course, Yoshida Naoki also stated that the overall design cannot truly meet the needs of all players. For example, the story design of this work still makes many players feel heavy. At the same time, many players have expressed their hope to restore the previous turn-based combat method. However, he said that each "Final Fantasy" series work is actually presented in a separate form, so there will be different gaming experiences and styles, and the design of a specific work will not be continued to the next work. He hopes to attract different types of player groups.
Many players have criticized the game's dark, adult-oriented story design. Yoshida Naoki believes that this feeling is relative. If the game content only emphasizes the gameplay experience of love and justice, it will obviously be too biased towards the teenage experience. He believes that with the current information development, many young people's understanding of the world has already exceeded their imagination. Therefore, he does not think that such content will produce a dark style that is biased towards adults.
In fact, when the game was being made, there was no special intention to present content in an adult style. Naoki Yoshida said that when he was initially planning the main content of the game, he actually had certain ideas in mind. The main hope was to connect players who had played the "Final Fantasy" series in the past and players who were exposed to this series for the first time.
The reason for choosing singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu to participate in the production of the game theme song is not only because Kenshi Yonezu himself is a player of Xie Lie's works, but also because he believes that his creative style is in line with this game. Therefore, they started negotiating cooperation in 2020 and completed the creation of the theme song later.
The moonscapes that appear in the game weren't intentional, but Yoshida Naoki explained that because many scenes in the game feature the protagonist having inner conversations with himself, often at night, the moonscapes naturally became the natural setting for the descriptions. Furthermore, since Kenshi Yonezu was one of the few players who had extensive access to the game before its official release, the theme song included numerous references to the moonscape.
This time, players can directly access introductions to characters and locations through the "Active Time Lore System", allowing players to understand the details of the game's development more quickly. Compared to previous games, which required players to continue exploring the game or interact with more game characters to understand the complete story, this allows players who want to play the game more efficiently to easily understand.
"Final Fantasy XVI" has been officially launched on June 6 and is exclusively available on the PlayStation 22 platform.
