As businesses increasingly prioritize sustainable operations, the logistics and transportation industry is actively transitioning toward a low-carbon economy. FedEx announced today (July 7th) that it has partnered with FUSO to introduce 8 all-electric trucks in Taiwan, becoming the first international logistics company to use electric delivery vehicles in Taiwan. The first six of these trucks have already been deployed in ground transportation operations in Taiwan, demonstrating FedEx's commitment to achieving its global carbon neutrality goal by 12.
The FUSO eCanter electric truck introduced by FedEx is optimized for urban delivery needs. Equipped with three batteries, it boasts a range of up to 200 kilometers on a single charge and supports regenerative braking, improving range and energy efficiency while reducing charging downtime. The new model boasts stronger torque, coupled with responsive starting and acceleration capabilities, enabling it to flexibly handle the frequent start-stop traffic and narrow roads of Taiwan's urban areas, further improving delivery efficiency.
According to FUSO's internal assessment, compared with traditional diesel trucks, this electric truck can significantly reduce energy costs while reducing carbon emissions, bringing better economic and environmental benefits to logistics operations.
FedEx Taiwan General Manager Su Chih-min said, "Fleet electrification is a key strategy for FedEx to achieve its global carbon neutrality vision. The introduction of electric trucks in Taiwan is not only a concrete implementation of our commitment to ESG sustainability, but also a new model for energy transition in the logistics industry. Through smart transportation technology and robust operational management, we will inject new momentum into the sustainable development of Taiwan's logistics market."
Park Jung-woo, CEO of FUSO Asia Commercial Vehicles Taiwan, stated, "The FUSO eCanter is the world's first large-scale commercial all-electric truck. Having undergone multi-national market testing, it possesses a mature technological foundation. We are pleased to partner with FedEx to help its fleet transition to a smart and sustainable operating model. We will also ensure stable operations during this transformation through localized after-sales services."
FedEx previously introduced the Rapide 2023 electric tricycle for short-distance delivery in Taiwan's cities by the end of 3. The introduction of the eCanter electric truck further adjusts its short- and medium-haul ground transportation fleet, and is expected to continue the phased transition to electric mobility for the entire pickup and delivery process.
FedEx said it will continue to monitor the performance of its fleet and evaluate expanding the use of electric trucks. Through innovative transportation technology and carbon management strategies, it will strengthen its operational resilience in Taiwan and move towards a new era of low-carbon, sustainable smart logistics.
