As the market share of electric and hybrid vehicles continues to increase in Taiwan, the weight and power output characteristics of these vehicles are changing, placing unprecedented demands on tire wear, fuel efficiency, and quietness. Michelin today (April 13th) in Taiwan to announce the launch of two new products specifically designed for next-generation new energy vehicles: the Primacy 5 energy and the Pilot Sport 5 energy. Meanwhile, the Primacy 5, which received rave reviews after its launch last year and was hailed as a "national favorite tire," has been further expanded with SUV-specific specifications; and for the high-performance market, the Pilot Sport S 5 enhances the original equipment (OE) tire lineup.
Primacy 5 Energy: A Quiet and Energy-Saving Tool Designed for Electric and Hybrid Vehicles
To meet the needs of daily commuting and family use, Michelin has launched the upgraded Primacy 5 energy, building upon the high safety and comfort of the existing Primacy 5.
The biggest highlight of this tire is its innovative "dual tread technology." The center of the tread uses a high-grip compound to ensure braking performance in both dry and wet conditions, while the shoulder area incorporates low-heat materials to significantly reduce rolling resistance. Combined with exclusive energy-saving carcass layer technology, the Primacy 5 energy not only effectively extends the driving range of pure electric vehicles but also further reduces the energy consumption of hybrid vehicles.
Furthermore, addressing the tire noise issue that electric vehicle owners care about most, this tire combines a variable frequency tread pattern with noise reduction design and third-generation silent ribs, significantly improving cabin quietness. This also enabled the Primacy 5 energy to achieve the highest "A" rating in the EU tire label ratings for wet grip, rolling resistance, and external noise.
Pilot Sport 5 energy: A performance tire that balances high load and ultimate grip
For electric performance car owners who crave exhilarating driving, Michelin's answer is the Pilot Sport 5 energy.
The instantaneous high torque and heavy battery load of electric vehicles are often the killer of performance tires. The Pilot Sport 5 energy also uses dual tread technology and incorporates Grip Adaptive compound, which allows it to maintain a firm grip on the ground when subjected to instantaneous high power output.
To cope with the heat accumulation during long-term high-speed operation, the tire shoulder adopts an Energy Passive compound and heat dissipation optimization design, which takes into account energy efficiency while pursuing performance, and has won the EU's double "A" rating for wet grip and rolling resistance.
It is worth mentioning that this tire has collaborated with the Mercedes-AMG team to conduct rigorous testing at the Nardò test track in Italy, and set an impressive test record for the longest driving distance of an electric vehicle in 24 hours.
The Primacy 5 expands its SUV specifications, while the Pilot Sport S 5 locks in top-of-the-line original equipment.
In addition to the all-new Energy series, Michelin has also expanded its product lineup to target both traditional gasoline-powered vehicles and the broader SUV market:
• Primacy 5 SUV Specifications Expanded:Continuing its EVERGRIP pattern and EVERTREAD long-lasting rubber formula, this year it officially introduces more SUV-specific specifications to enhance load-bearing capacity and reduce irregular wear.
• Pilot Sport S 5:Developed specifically for top-performance vehicles, these tires are currently offered primarily as original equipment (OE) tires, emphasizing precise steering and ultimate grip on both roads and racetracks, thus solidifying Michelin's partnership with high-end car manufacturers.
Weekend Only: Immersive Experience at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Park
To allow consumers to experience firsthand the differences in tire technology, Michelin has announced that it will hold the "MICHELIN Safety Task Force" interactive exhibition from April 17th to April 19th on the first floor of the Syntrend Creative Park in Taipei. The exhibition will feature six interactive challenges; participants who complete the challenges on the official LINE account will have the chance to win exclusive brand gifts and experience a Michelin exclusive sticker machine.
