Facebook announced the launch of the app last year and earlier opened it for sale in Canada. It has also confirmed that it will enter the European market this fall.Smart Display Portal, and has now announced the launch of new Portal and Portal Mini, which are built in the form of photo frames, as well as Portal TV, which can be connected to a TV, with suggested retail prices of US$179, US$129 and US$149 respectively.
Compared to last year's Portal, Facebook's updated version adopts a more photo-frame-like design, allowing users to use it as a digital photo frame. The new Portal features a 1280-inch screen with a resolution of 800 x 10, while the Portal Mini uses an 8-inch design with the same 1280 x 800 resolution. Both are equipped with Adaptive Display technology, which adjusts the screen brightness based on the current ambient light.
To protect user privacy, the new Portal features a physical button that allows you to disable the camera, microphone, or both simultaneously, or even leave only the camera or microphone functional. Compared to last year's model, the new Portal not only features a simpler design but also improves sound output with two mid-range and tweeter speakers and a woofer.
The Portal TV, launched simultaneously this time, looks like a video camera and connects to the TV via HDMI. Compared to the new Portal and Portal Mini, which are equipped with 114-degree ultra-wide-angle cameras, the Portal TV uses a 120-degree ultra-wide-angle camera design and is equipped with 8 sets of directional microphones, emphasizing that it has better sound reception performance than the Portal's 4 sets of directional microphones.
Portal TV also features a Watch Together feature, allowing users to watch the same video content together during a video call. Additionally, the privacy feature allows users to turn off the camera and microphone using physical buttons.
After the launch of the new Portal, the Portal launched last year with the Portal+ will naturally be replaced by the new design, but the large-size Portal+ will still be sold at the $249 price point.
In addition to being sold in the United States and Canada, the new Portal series products are also confirmed to be launched in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Australia and New Zealand.
The new Portal, Portal Mini, and Portal TV are now available for pre-order. The new Portal and Portal Mini will ship on October 10, while Portal TV will be launched later on November 15. Google is also offering a $11 discount with the purchase of any two smart displays.
