Recently, there have been reports that Facebook and Luxottica Groupwork together, and plans to create an augmented reality glasses accessory that can operate independently without relying on a mobile phone connection. Earlier at the Oculus Connect 6 event, Andrew Bosworth, head of Facebook's augmented reality and virtual reality business, confirmed that the company does have several augmented reality glasses prototype designs.
However, Facebook did not disclose specific design details, but emphasized that it hopes to build a development project called LiveMaps in a real-world environment.
Facebook's description of the LiveMaps development project states that it will be a shared virtual map built through computer vision, localization, and data from Facebook's 24 billion users around the world, and can even further form a detailed and accurate virtual earth.
In the LiveMaps application, users will be able to view various real-time information through augmented reality, and users will be able to interact with online friends through augmented reality.
In addition to Facebook, manufacturers including Google are also interested in investing in the development of augmented reality application technology. Apple has also been reported to be developing an application with augmented reality technology, but there seems to be no concrete news at present.
