Facebook previously created virtual reality interactive spaces Facebook Spaces and Oculus Rooms for Oculus Rift. Facebook announced at the Oculus Connect 6 event that they will be shut down on October 10 and replaced by a new service called Facebook Horizon, which is expected to be officially launched in 25.
In the virtual reality space presented by Facebook Horizon, users will be able to log in through Oculus Quest or Oculus Rift and create their own virtual reality avatar.
Users can switch between various public spaces within Facebook Horizon through telepods, form activity communities with others, and even interact further.
In addition, Facebook will further strengthen online social interaction between virtual reality and the real world. It also plans to bring more games and audio-visual services into virtual reality, and emphasizes that it has invested more than US$1 million in the development of the Oculus Store, hoping to build a larger virtual reality application ecosystem. It also provides many design application resources to meet developer needs, such as allowing developers to create full-body portraits that can be presented in virtual reality environments.
