In response to more and more manufacturers investing in the development of small unmanned helicopters to transport goods, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has finally relaxed relevant regulations. It is expected to agree that models weighing less than 55 pounds (about 25 kilograms) can be put into commercial use. However, they will still be limited to daytime deliveries and the number of flights in conditions with poor visibility. At the same time, flight range, altitude and speed will be strictly regulated. In addition, operators must be over 17 years old, and the small unmanned helicopters used must also meet certification specifications and use company trademarks.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), small unmanned helicopters will be conditionally allowed to be used for commercial purposes in the United States. This is in response to the increasing number of manufacturers investing in the development of small unmanned helicopters to transport goods (such as Amazon).
The first wave of draft regulations will specify that small unmanned helicopters used by manufacturers must be designed to weigh less than 55 pounds (about 25 kilograms), meet certification specifications and use company trademarks. Operators must also be at least 17 years old. At the same time, flight range, altitude and speed will be strictly controlled. The delivery time of small unmanned helicopters will be limited to daytime, and the number of flights in poor visibility conditions will also be restricted.
In addition, the FAA also reserves the authority and space to formulate relevant regulations for small unmanned helicopters weighing less than 4.4 pounds (2 kilograms). The draft will also be open to American citizens for comment to further determine whether relevant regulations need to be adjusted.
Previously, the Federal Aviation Administration had restricted Amazon and other companies from using small unmanned helicopters to deliver goods or deliver essential items such as medicines to areas with inconvenient transportation due to flight safety issues. However, the demand in this area is growing. At the same time, based on considerations such as fuel, environmental protection and time generated by delivery, as well as to allow delivery technology to develop more flexibly, the US government has also made adjustments to the law.
