Earlier confirmed that it will be on September 9Be the first to open sales in the South Korean marketSamsung's Galaxy Fold, a foldable phone with a concave screen, which will also be available in the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Singapore, was also on display at IFA 2019. Before the actual launch, I also experienced the details of this redesigned foldable phone.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy Fold will first launch a 5G connected version in South Korea and other markets, and will then launch a 4G LTE connected version in specific markets.
Regarding spec differences, the 5G version features a smaller 4235mAh battery than the 4mAh in the 4380G LTE version. This means the 5G version sacrifices battery space within the same body to accommodate the 5G chip. Furthermore, the 5G version only offers a single nano SIM card slot, while the 4G LTE version features both an eSIM and a physical nano SIM card slot. Whether the eSIM card can be used properly depends largely on carrier support.
The Galaxy Fold is expected to be sold in South Korea, the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Singapore. Samsung will also provide one-on-one teaching services for consumers who purchase the phone, and provide 24-hour online or telephone technical support to make it easier for users to use this phone.
As previously mentioned, the new Galaxy Fold's mechanical design extends the Infinity Flex screen's top protective layer to the outer frame to prevent foreign matter from entering. It also emphasizes that this is an integral part of the phone's structure and users are advised not to remove it. Furthermore, the body has been enhanced with multiple reinforcements, including reinforcements at the top and bottom of the hinge, while also reducing gaps.
With these adjustments, the new design makes the Galaxy Fold more stable, while also making the folding and flattening feel more pronounced. While the inner screen folding does show a slight folding mark, it doesn't affect actual use.
Thanks to the collaboration with Google on the user interface, the existing Android experience is essentially maintained, and switching between different screens has become smoother. However, there are still not many third-party apps that have the appropriate display ratio and are suitable for use on screens of different sizes. This may depend on how Samsung collaborates with Google and developers to enrich the usage scenarios of the Galaxy Fold and make the foldable screen applications more meaningful.
The Galaxy Fold's usage model allows it to be a small-screen phone when folded, and when necessary, it can be unfolded to provide the required display area through the large screen, for example, for viewing web pages, photos, videos, or looking at maps or playing games, all of which can provide a good visual experience.
