Apple announced the launch ofApple Watch series 4The most obvious change is the use of a screen design with a larger display ratio. In addition, it adds fall detection for the wearer and electrocardiogram measurement function, and even further complies with the certification of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), making Apple Watch series 4 Apple's first wearable device product that can be used for medical purposes.
In fact, Apple has been collaborating with medical institutions and academic institutions on the Apple Watch series of products. It has even created a dedicated wheelchair mode for users with limited mobility, so that Apple Watch products can also help such users measure and record personal exercise data.
Previously, Apple claimed that the Apple Watch's measurement data could be used by doctors as a diagnostic reference. In addition, the company continues to add more health data measurement functions to the Apple Watch, which shows that Apple hopes to cooperate with more medical systems through this product to gain more development possibilities for smart wearable applications.
Therefore, the Apple Watch series 4 released this time has obviously become Apple's first wearable device product that can be used for medical purposes. It has also been certified by the US Food and Drug Administration and is expected to be used in a wider range of medical applications in the future.
However, since the version presented at the press conference did not yet provide the app required for the ECG function, the ECG measurement function could not be directly demonstrated on site.
As for the Apple Watch series 4's added electrocardiogram (ECG) function and its emphasis on medical applications, this product must pass additional regional medical regulations before it can be launched on the market. Therefore, Taiwan and other regions are not included in the initial launch list. This may be related to the fact that the Apple Watch series 4 is still under review.
This time, the Apple Watch series 4 has a significantly different design from its predecessor. The screen display area has been increased by 35% and 32% respectively, corresponding to the two sizes of 40mm and 44mm. At the same time, the operating interface has been redesigned to allow the larger screen display area to accommodate more information, and more dynamic wallpapers and surface content have been added. The watch body material is available in stainless steel and aluminum alloy designs, and it also cooperates with Hermès and Nike to provide watch models and strap accessories.
The digital crown on the right has added a tactile vibration feedback function and can be used as an electrocardiogram measurement sensing position. At the same time, the original red dot design of the eSIM version has been changed to a red ring, and the efficiency of calls and other connections has been further improved. In addition, the microphone and built-in microphone have also been improved, making it easier for users to make calls through the Apple Watch series 4.
The built-in S4 processor will improve App processing efficiency and reduce battery consumption through 64-bit architecture, so that the battery life of Apple Watch series 4 can also be maintained at about 18 hours. In addition, the new W3 wireless chip also makes the connection speed faster.
In addition, the watch body also has a waterproof function with a higher protection factor. The built-in motion sensor can respond to 32G acceleration and provide more than 8 times the detection sensitivity. This can collect personal motion data more accurately, including movements such as squatting and turning. Even when the wearer encounters an accident, a distress signal can be sent more quickly through the built-in emergency notification system.
After the launch of Apple Watch series 4, the existing Apple Watch series models will be available in four options: 44mm, 42mm, 40mm and 38mm, and can share watch accessories. The previously launched Apple Watch Series 3 will still be sold in the market, but the suggested retail price will be adjusted to US$279 and US$379, and the Apple Watch Series 1 will officially fade out of the market.
The regular Apple Watch series 4 will start at $399, while the eSIM version will start at $499. Pre-orders are expected to open on September 9, with the first wave of units available on September 14. The specific launch date has not yet been confirmed in Taiwan.
