This year during Google I/O 2022, it was stated that Google Pay will be the name of theSwitch back to Google WalletGoogle has now made it possible for all users to download, install and use this new wallet service.
However, India will continue to use the Google Pay service originally launched by Google for the Indian market, while the United States and Singapore will retain both Google Pay and Google Wallet. The reason seems to be that there are still many Indian users in the local area who remit money through Google services, but Google will gradually adjust to only use Google Wallet in the future.
Although the name Google Wallet has been used since the early days, it was later changed to Android Pay, then adjusted to Google Pay, and now it has changed back to the original Google Wallet. It feels like a big circle, but it also highlights that Google hopes to make this service not only limited to digital transactions, but also include the ability to collect various membership cards, transportation cards, digital car keys, digital tickets or digital certificates.
The new version of Google Wallet is now available for download and installation through the Google Play Store, but the device must be running Android 5.2 or later. To use it in the United States, users must register a personal Google account and a valid phone number for identity verification.
