Last year, it was acquired by Italian developer Bending Spoons.Evernote, earlier confirmed that it would lay off most of its employees in the United States and Chile, and close its US office, and all operational focus would be shifted to the European market.
Evernote has attracted many users in the past, with its lightweight and easy-to-use interface, the addition of more practical note-taking functions, and even a subsequent collaboration with the famous notebook brand Moleskin. However, companies including Google, Microsoft, and Apple have begun to promote their own online data integration services, and even online storage services such as Dropbox have begun to integrate file note-taking functions, which has put Evernote under a lot of competitive pressure.
As for Bending Spoons, the Italian developer that bought Evernote, it has launched the video editing tool Splice and the photo editing tool Remini that uses artificial intelligence technology. It also helped the Italian government create the new coronavirus epidemic contact tracing app called Immuni.
However, the confirmation of the closure of its US operations and the layoffs of most employees highlights that Evernote is currently facing a lot of competitive pressure in the US market. Major technology companies including Microsoft, Google, and Apple have actually launched services that can replace Evernote, and many users have begun to turn to emerging note-taking services such as Notion, Notability, and GoodNotes.
On the other hand, although Evernote has been continuously updated and new features have been added in recent years, the service often encounters problems and synchronization anomalies, which has caused many long-term supporters to complain, and has led many people to choose not to use Evernote anymore.
