A report produced by the European Union shows that "X" (formerly Twitter) has a greater catalytic effect on the spread of false information and fake news than social services such as Facebook and TikTok.
Vera Jourova, Vice President of the European Commission, said that "X" is the platform with the highest proportion of false information and fake news posts, and even has a higher exposure of false content.
The report states that "X" is more effective at spreading misinformation and fake news than Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube, while also boasting the highest reach of related content among most social media services. Furthermore, within different countries, "X" consistently leads in dissemination effectiveness, followed by Facebook and Instagram.
However, "X" did not respond to the EU report, but explained through its global government affairs team account that the data cited by the EU was incorrect, emphasizing that "X"'s ability to spread false information and fake news was not significant, and even claimed that its competitors had a higher communication reach.
