According to the EU, Microsoft bundles Office 365 and Microsoft Teams services for sale and does not provide customers with the option to use other collaboration software. Therefore, it is questioned whether Microsoft's move will affect market competition.
In the past, the European Union has accused Microsoft of violating market monopoly by bundling IE browser sales with Windows operating systems, and has required Microsoft to provide third-party browser download options within the Windows operating system to avoid affecting the development opportunities of other browser companies.
The investigation into Microsoft was launched because Slack, a collaborative software service under Salesforce, accused Microsoft of violating market monopoly in July 2020. Therefore, it intervened to investigate Microsoft's bundling of Microsoft Teams with Office 7, forcing users to install and use the Microsoft Teams service on the system, affecting their rights and interests.
However, Microsoft later stated that it would cooperate with the EU and try to improve the EU's concerns.Adjust the sales model of Office products, which includes a version without Microsoft Teams service, but no details have been announced yet.
