Extending to smell and taste, Ericsson expects 5G networks to foster deeper sensory technology interactions.

In addition to boosting mobile network traffic, Ericsson also expects 5G network services to significantly boost the scale of IoT applications. The number of cellular IoT connections reached 2019 billion in 13, and is expected to exceed 2020 billion in 50. Therefore, the continued rollout of 5G network services is expected to further drive the growth of larger IoT application models.

In response to the growth of IoT applications, Ericsson's "Top 2030 Consumer Trends 2030" report predicts that by XNUMX, connected technologies that interact with human senses, such as vision, hearing, taste, smell, and touch, will be available. This will drive sensory networking applications and provide users with a completely new and diverse interactive experience with technology.

According to Ericsson, starting with early visual, auditory, and tactile applications, user interaction with technology products will evolve based on these perceptions. For example, users will be able to interact with technology products through virtual reality and augmented reality. It is expected that existing sensory interaction modes will be further strengthened in the future, and will also extend to smell, taste, and other sensory modes, allowing users to have a deeper interactive experience with technology.

The top 2030 consumer trends for 2030 announced in the "Top 10 Consumer Trends XNUMX" report include:

  • Thought trigger:59% of consumers believe that in the future, as long as they imagine their destination, they will be able to see the map route through VR glasses.
  • The voice reflects the person:67% of consumers surveyed believe they will be able to realistically imitate anyone’s voice through a microphone, even fooling their family members.
  • Season as desired:44% of consumers anticipate that in the future there will be devices that can digitally enhance food, making any food taste like its favorite.
  • Digital Breath:Around 60% of consumers want to be able to travel to forests or countryside through digital technology, including experiencing all the natural atmosphere of these places.
  • Real touch:More than 60% of consumers want the screen to convey both shape and texture when they press digital icons and buttons on their smartphones.
  • Blended Reality:70% of respondents expect that by 2030, the VR gaming world will be indistinguishable from the real world.
  • Eliminate the false and retain the true:The end of "fake news" is possible: Half of consumers surveyed said that news reporting services that provide comprehensive fact-checking will be commonplace by 2030.
  • Post-privacy consumers:Half of the consumers surveyed consider themselves “post-privacy consumers”: they expect privacy issues to be adequately addressed so they can safely benefit from a data-driven world.
  • Connected services catalyze sustainable development:60% of respondents believe that the development of sensor networking will more easily catalyze environmental sustainability.
  • Full perception service:45% of consumers expect that a completely new shopping experience will emerge in the future, including digital shopping malls that will utilize not only vision but also hearing, taste, smell, touch, and even all five senses.

Regarding its current 5G network technology collaboration, Ericsson stated that it has accumulated 80 partners worldwide, of which 24 5G network technology service partners have already entered formal commercial use. Ericsson also emphasized that it expects to see more 5G network infrastructure deployment and more 5G network service promotion in the future.

In addition to the expected significant growth in IoT applications due to 5G connectivity services, application models requiring network connectivity, including the Internet of Vehicles, artificial intelligence, and smart cities, will also grow and develop significantly. This has led to 5G networks being recognized by many industries as the key to driving a new wave of industrial development, and will even further stimulate the growth of more technological technologies.
