Ericsson announced that it has entered into a consortium with Swedish companies including AstraZeneca, SAAB, SEB, and Wallenberg Investments AB to jointly establish and operate a joint venture. The joint venture will use NVIDIA computing acceleration technology to build secure and sovereign computing access services in Sweden to promote local artificial intelligence innovation and development.
The first phase of this collaboration will deploy two NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD systems, equipped withGrace Blackwell GB300 computing platformUpon completion, it will become the largest enterprise artificial intelligence supercomputer in Sweden and will support artificial intelligence applications with high computing loads, thereby accelerating processes such as training domain-specific artificial intelligence models and large-scale inference (including reasoning-based artificial intelligence).
To support the Swedish Enterprise Alliance's development goals, NVIDIA also plans to establish its first artificial intelligence technology center in Sweden and collaborate with industry partners to promote AI research.
In this collaboration, Ericsson will leverage its data science expertise to develop and deploy cutting-edge AI models to improve network performance and efficiency, while also leveraging AI to create new business models and application scenarios. AstraZeneca will utilize this system to advance AI-driven drug discovery, while Saab will accelerate the development of advanced defense technologies through AI. SEB will use AI to improve productivity, create new customer services, and ensure the bank's future competitiveness.
"AI plays a key role in network evolution, driving high-performance, programmable, and automated networks," said Erik Ekudden, Ericsson's Chief Technology Officer. "AI and 5G are crucial to the future competitiveness of Sweden and other countries, driving innovation, fostering the emergence of new startups, and enabling new use cases and service capabilities. As a company that continues to invest heavily in AI research and development, Ericsson looks forward to collaborating with other leading Swedish companies and NVIDIA to ensure Sweden remains a global leader in AI development and application."
“Just as electricity powered the industrial age and the internet launched the digital age, AI is the engine of the next industrial revolution,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “Through the vision of Wallenberg Investors and Swedish industry leaders, this project will build Sweden’s first AI infrastructure, laying the foundation for innovative breakthroughs in science, industry, and society, ensuring Sweden’s continued leadership in the AI era.”
Marcus Wallenberg, Chairman of Wallenberg Investments, said: "Investing in state-of-the-art AI infrastructure is a key step in accelerating the development and application of AI in Sweden. We believe this initiative will have high-value spillover effects, including boosting talent skills, fostering new collaboration models, and strengthening the country's overall AI ecosystem."
