Reuters reported that Epic Games filed a motion with the court in March this year.Apple is considered in contempt of court order, arguing that Apple's recent decision to allow developers to use third-party payment methods for transactions is still unreasonable. Apple subsequently asked the court to dismiss Epic Games' motion, arguing that it was scrutinizing Apple's business operations with the goal of increasing its own profits.
In the motion filed by Epic Games, it is argued that although Apple has allowed developers to use third-party payment methods within the App in response to a court ruling, in the new version of the App Store guidelines released in early January this year, Apple still stipulates that developers must obtain approval before using third-party payment methods within the App, and still charges a 1%-12% commission. Epic Games believes that such adjustments will not actually benefit developers.
Therefore, Epic Games believes that Apple has no intention of complying with the court's ruling, and even points out that Apple's recent actions violate the court's ruling.
Apple subsequently countered, arguing that Epic Games was acting in self-interest and scrutinizing Apple's business practices. Apple emphasized its compliance with the court's ruling and explained that offering additional payment options within apps makes it easier for developers to accept payments through various payment methods. The company also emphasized that the court's ruling was intended to make it easier for developers to access various payment methods, rather than to regulate how Apple regulates access to its services.
